Hi all,

I wondering if any of you have positive sighting of wall lizards Podarcis muralis in either Brittany and Normandy?

I am visting France over the next two months so I would like to know any known locations of where I could see them.

Can anybody help?

Many Thanks
Nina

Hi Nina,

Drop Daniel an email, he's a good start, and a regular RAUKer.

I'll email you separately with some sites that I know.

You will have difficulty not seeing them from my experience. They are on the garden walls as one walks along the main roads out of small villages and are also found along the road verges in long grass if one stops at lay-byes well away from houses or walls on the main roads. We found a large area a bit like the Somerset Levels or Romney Marsh close to Machecoul South west of Nantes with small pastures divided by water filled ditches, the small lanes had numerous stone bridges over the ditches that all had a small colony of Wall Lizards on them.

Hi Nina

Two questions ?

Have you left yet ?

Are you restricted to Brittany and Normandy?

I live a bit further south in the Centre and we have hundreds of lizards in and around the house including (occaisionally) the big green ones with the blue throat.  you're more than welcome to visit. is your interest curiosity based or more scientific ?

Regards

Hi AB,

Haven't gone yet...

I am restricted to Brittany and Normandy as i am sampling lizards for my research.

I am also interested generally in where they are.

Thanks for your reply.

Nina

Many Thanks
